Recounting His Faithfulness

I consider myself an average chef.  I have about eight recipes I nail that are family favorites.  When I try a Pinterest recipe, I am cautious knowing that it might not make its way into our frequent recipes and that’s ok.  I used to take it so personal when plates weren’t emptied.  It felt like such a waste of my time, energy, and resources.  Now I realize that my husband and kids have just come accustomed to the things they like, the things they know, and the good meals I’ve cooked over and over and over again.

When we find ourselves in unfamiliar territory, it’s important to remind ourselves that God is there with us.  He isn’t changing who He is or how He does things to see if it works.  His recipe doesn’t change.  He hasn’t jumped ship.  He hasn’t taken a vacation on you!  He is in this with you!  I love love love the faithfulness of Jesus!  In my personal life, I have come to find that when I feel anxiety, panic, or disappointment start to creep in, I recount who He has been to me.  He HAS been faithful.  He HAS brought breakthrough.  He HAS brought healing.  He HAS been peace in a storm.  Remind yourself of who God is, who He HAS been to you, and what He HAS done for you.  Don’t buy the lie that He isn’t faithful.

It’s also important in seasons of change to guard our hearts.  Why is our default to focus on the things we don’t know?  We quickly let panic spiral our thoughts out of control, which affects our mind, which affects our spirit, which then affects our physical body.  Wow, that escalated quickly!  Proverbs 4:23 is dead-on when it talks about protecting your heart.

“So above all, guard the affections of your heart,

for they affect all that you are.

Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being,

for from there flows the wellspring of life.”

Today, we are praying for your hearts and spirits to be guarded by the peace and goodness of Jesus.  We are praying that your thoughts are filled with praise to God for His continuous faithfulness in our lives.  And we’re praying that in this season, you encounter Jesus in such a way that your life is forever changed and you can’t help but tell that story.

“I don’t keep it a secret or hide the truth. I preach of your faithfulness and kindness, proclaiming your extravagant love to the largest crowd I can find!” Psalm 40:10
